Thanks for stopping by and reading this little note. I'm Emma, the quirky brain behind Relief and a lingerie designer who is passionate about creating innovative underwear.
In 2017, I experienced a burnout from my corporate job, which led me to eliminate all single-use plastics from my life. That's when I discovered period underwear, and it was a game changer for me.
During my global shopping adventures, I explored brands like Thinx, Knix, and Modibodi. However, I found it frustrating that many of these brands lacked the industry know-how to create the top-notch products I was looking for back in the days. I had the idea of creating something different.
It wasn't until spring 2020, when I was locked down in my childhood bedroom for 40 days due to Covid, that Relief truly began to take shape. Facing an existential crisis, I realised I'd been too busy globe-trotting and swiping right to make a real impact in the world.
My mum's journey in the '80s has always been a huge inspiration for me. She'd borrow sewing machines from neighbors to set up her own sample room, all with zero budget. She taught me that with a bit of help from the people around us, we can figure things out no matter what. So, when it came to launching my own business during a pandemic, I knew I had to channel that same spirit. With empty pockets and no funding, it was a wild ride. I maxed out my credit card, called in every favour (including having my friends as models), and sweet-talked factories like my life depended on it. And you know what? We made it happen and managed to stay alive.
A massive shout-out to everyone who has supported and continues to support us—technicians, engineers, investors, our incredible team, partners, and brand ambassadors. You guys are the real MVPs, keeping us alive and kicking when things got tough. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in Relief.
